“Real World” Emergency Preparedness Drill

New Hampshire assisted living residences are now required to hold annual emergency preparedness drills to practice and test written emergency preparedness plans. Last week, Carriage Hill held its first “real world” drill by simulating a hurricane that caused structural damage to the facility and injuries to two residents. In addition to giving staff the opportunity to practice, the drill successfully identified some areas of improvement for our written protocols to ensure better preparedness for an actual event.

Carriage Hill wishes to thank the Madbury Fire Chief for his assistance in planning the event and serving as the evaluator as well as our two community volunteer “resident” victims. The exercise proved very helpful in giving staff exposure to responding given they were not informed of the specifics on the drill in advance. In addition, residents were given the opportunity to participate and gain understanding of the level of planning staff have put into ensuring their safety – beyond every day events.

Carriage Hill Assisted Living is now accepting residents for our waiting list. We would be pleased to schedule a tour at your convenience.
