Welcome Back UNH Recreation Management & Policy Students!

By Sara Nadeau

Carriage Hill Assisted Living welcomed back the UNH Recreation Management and Policy students this month. For the third semester, the residence is hosting undergraduate students in the Therapeutic Recreation program who will obtain clinical experience by working with residents. The seven students have been assigned to a resident to develop a specific, individualized program to meet the residents’ needs. This partnership will mutually benefit the students and residents and is part of Carriage Hill’s mission to partner with the local community.

This semester’s program started in early February and will continue through May on each Wednesday evening. The program consists of the one-on-one resident work for one to two hours per session, followed by an hour long group activity open to all residents for participation. Examples of recreation and leisure related goals that the students and residents will work towards include learning how to use adaptive equipment for recreation activities, improving physical fitness levels and balance, working on memory-related tasks, learning how to use technology to communicate with family and increasing socialization within the Carriage Hill community.

If you are considering residency, Carriage Hill Assisted Living is accepting residents. We would be pleased to schedule a tour at your convenience.
